In May of this year, Ukrainian producers exported more than 40 thousand tons of sugar, which is 30% more than in April.

“During May of the current marketing year, Ukrainian producers exported 41.3 thousand tons of sugar, which is almost 30% more than in April,” the report says.
The main importer of Ukrainian sugar in May remains Azerbaijan - almost a third of all deliveries of the month (29%). Significant volumes went to Turkey and Tajikistan - 17% and 16% respectively, detailed in a specialized association.
At the same time, for the period from September to May 2018-2019 of the marketing year, 378.2 thousand tons of sugar was exported, which is 13% less than the same period last year.
According to estimates of the analytical department of NASU “Ukrtsukor”, next season the number of operating sugar factories will decrease from 42 to 34, and sugar production is expected to reach 1.1-1.2 million tons.
Ukraine is among the 20 largest sugar producers in the world and closes the top ten largest exporters - according to the results of 2018, the amount of exports amounted to $ 217 million.
In the 2018/2019 marketing year, the processing of sugar beets was carried out by 42 sugar factories, which produced 1.823 million tons of sugar, while the domestic market needs 1.3 million tons. The carryover stocks of sugar of previous years at the beginning of the current marketing year are estimated at 390 thousand tons. The export potential of sugar in the current year is estimated to be at least 600 thousand tons.
