Ukrainian organic production, which is now rapidly developing, has considerable potential for increasing the supply of its products to promising and large-scale markets, in particular, Chinese.
This was told by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Elena Kovaleva during the seminar “Certification by Organic Standards of China. Specifics of entering the Chinese organic market, ”the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy says.
“The organic market in Ukraine is developing rapidly. With ecological potential, with new legislation on organic production and with the willingness of Ukrainian producers to certify their production to meet the standards of countries around the world, Ukraine has all the opportunities to increase the supply of organic products and conquer such a large-scale and promising market like China, ”Kovaleva said.
She noted that today, according to FiBL estimates, there are 504 operators in the organic market in Ukraine, 304 of which are manufacturers. The total area of agricultural land with organic status and the land of the transition period is about 300 thousand hectares. The largest countries consuming Ukrainian organic products are the countries of the European Union, the USA, Canada, Australia and some Asian countries. The main export products are cereals, oilseeds, legumes, berries, fruits and wild plants.
“In 2018, the growth of trade between our two countries in the field of agriculture was 16%. I am sure that fruitful cooperation in the organic market will provide additional impetus for the realization of our joint opportunities, in which each side will receive its economic advantages, ”the Deputy Minister concluded.

For his part, Liu Jin, adviser on trade and economic issues of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ukraine, and representatives of the Chinese delegation who participated in the seminar expressed great interest in the supply of Ukrainian organic products to the People’s Republic of China.
The total amount of trade turnover between Ukraine and China in 2018 amounted to $ 1.3 billion. TOP 5 commodity items of export to the PRC (to 2018): corn ($ 489.7 million), sunflower oil ($ 334 million), meal and oil cake ($ 137, 7 million), barley ($ 61.5 million), rapeseed oil ($ 50.6 million).
