Tomato exports from Ukraine decreased by 29%. It is reported by Pro-Consulting with reference to the data of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine.
According to the results of the first 8 months of 2018, the export of Ukrainian tomatoes amounted to 10.71 thousand tons, in monetary terms - $ 7.98 million, which is almost a third less than the same period last year.
The main buyers of Ukrainian tomatoes were: Belarus - by $ 5.5 million (7.39 thousand tons), Poland - by $ 1.6 million (1.79 thousand tons) and Latvia - by $ 213 thousand (285 tons).
But the main importer of foreign vegetables, in particular, early tomatoes and cucumbers to Ukraine, is Turkey, whose import share increased from 76.8% in 2012 to 96.8% in January-April 2017.
The reason for the active increase in the share of Turkish vegetables in the Ukrainian market was the aggravation of relations with Russia, after which Turkey increased its exports to Ukraine. It also caused a tightening of price competition between domestic growers and importers.
